MILESTONE 1 MILLION METER MARK WITH AUTONOMOUS DRILLING

WesTrac (who are a distributor for CAT) and mining giant Thiess have together reached a significant milestone in the mining sector.

Magazine australianmanufacturing.com reports that they have completed one million meters drilled autonomously last month.

The achievement was made at the Mt. Arthur South site in New South Wales and pioneers the use of automation to new heights (well depths) in mining.

Trent Smith, Thiess Head of Autonomy and Operations Technology, emphasised the importance of seamless integration of technology, people and processes.

500 employees company-wide have been trained in autonomous mining systems, the result of a significant investment by Thiess.

This is set to have a profound impact on drilling operations; boosting performance, reducing operating costs and increasing the consistency of drilling. The following link contains the article in full.
