Silicon India reports that India’s dependence on coal is still rising, with production growth hitting 5.63%. 70% of the electricity is generated using coal. However, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is focussing on a green energy push and is determined to transition to cleaner forms of energy and sustainable critical mineral extraction.

So, it’s excellent news that India have chosen to partner with a joint initiative between Monash University and IIT Hyderabad to ‘revolutionise the global supply chain of critical minerals through cutting-edge research and sustainable practices.’

The initiative establishes a new body – the Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub (AICMRH).
So what will this new partnership aim to achieve?

The aim is to offer expertise in critical mineral extraction, economic geology, sustainable mining practices and supply chain analysis.

It is supported by $1.15 million in funding from the Ministry of Education and aligns with the G20’s commitment to diversifying supply chain and energy transition.

This initiative is an important step towards achieving these goals, to learn more regarding this initiative the following link provides further detail.
