THE WORLD’S FASTEST AIRCRAFT – NOW IN THE PRINT QUEUE

Hermeus, a company developing hypersonic aircraft for defence and commercial applications has acquired an original Sapphire and large-format Sapphire XC printers from Velo3D, Inc.

These highly advanced 3D printers will be used to build parts for Hermeus’ Chimera engine and Quarterhorse aircraft, reports Australian Manufacturing News.

Hermeus was founded in 2018 to realise hypersonic air travel and aircraft. Amongst others, it has received funding from the US Air Force, RTX Ventures (the venture capital group of Raytheon Technologies). They also have support from NASA and other US government agencies – so expectations are sky high!

The Chimera engine, a turbine-based combined cycle engine will power Hermeus’ first aircraft designed to achieve high Mach speeds. The aircraft ‘Quarterhorse’ has a debut flight scheduled for 2023.
Velo3D’s metal additive manufacturing technology has seen extensive adoption in hypersonics and New Space. It can build complex parts engineered to the most exacting standards and without compromise.
